How To Play the Co-Op Split Fiction Without a Partner

The new game from EA’s Hazelight Studios, Split Fiction, is another great co-op experience from the makers of the award-winning It Takes Two. But since the new game requires two players, it could be tough for solo folks to enjoy it. Fortunately, Hazelight has an answer.

Like its previous games It Takes Two and A Way Out, Hazelight built Split Fiction as a dynamic game where two players interact with and rely on each other to progress. It is, quite literally, impossible to play alone. That poses a problem: how to play if you don’t have a buddy lined up. Hazelight’s amusing but farcical “ship-you-a-friend edition” aside, the studio has a solution in the form of its own Discord channel, where you can find other players.

Hazelight posted an invite link to its Discord server on Split Fiction publisher EA’s website. To join, just click the link and accept the invite (you’ll need to have an account with Discord, which if you don’t know, is an online community-organized chat platform). When you’re in Hazelight’s server, look for the Split Fiction subsection and click on the sf-looking-for-player channel to post, or respond to posts, about finding a partner.

Note that the Split Fiction game has another feature that makes hunting for players easier: the Friend’s Pass. If you own the game, this essentially allows you to invite any of your friends to play the game with you for free, regardless of platform (the game has crossplay between PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC).

Your partner will need to find Friend’s Pass on their gaming platform of choice’s store and install it, though it’s just a free program (here’s a link the Steam PC version, for instance). Some posts on the Split Fiction Discord have the Friend’s Pass installed and just need a game owner to come and play with.
