The 2022 film features an original song by Taylor Swift
One of the decade’s most loved mystery films is airing on TV tonight (Saturday, April 5) across the UK for free.
There’s no better way to wind down on a Saturday evening by digging into a film that will have you guessing until the credits role.
Released in 2022, Where the Crawdads Sing is a strong adaption of Delia Owens’ 2018 acclaimed best-selling novel.
Starring Daisy Edgar-Jones a Kya, the film follows the girl as she raises herself to adulthood in a North Carolina marshland, becoming a naturalist in the process.
Living an independent life, Kya’s life is turned upside down when the town’s quarterback is found dead after a brutal murder.
With Kya the prime suspect, the film jumps between timelines as the viewers learns more about Kya and why she possibly would have committed the crime.
Rising to fame during the pandemic in Normal People, where she acted alongside Paul Mescal, Edgar-Jones has gone on to become one of the UK’s most promising stars.
While she shined in horror movie Flesh and battled tornadoes with Glen Powell in Twisters, her complex performance as Kya might be her best.
Filling out the ensemble cast is Taylor John Smith, Harris Dickinson, Michael Hyatt, Sterling Macer Jr., Jojo Regina, Garret Dillahunt, Ahna O’Reilly, and David Strathairn.
Watching the film gives viewers the chance to see Dickinson in action, with the Babygirl actor revealed to be playing John Lennon this week.
Dickinson will be playing the role in all four of 1917 director Sam Mendes’ 2028 series of films about the UK’s biggest ever band.
Critics didn’t see much with Where the Crawdads Sing, giving it a low score of just 34% on Rotten Tomatoes upon its release.
However, viewers couldn’t disagree more, giving it a 96% approval rating on the site and a strong score of 7.2 out of 10 IMBD.
Costing just $24 million, the film grossed a staggering 144.3 million million around the world, showing that audiences will go to the cinema for all kinds of movies.
Part of the reason Where the Crawdads Sing did so well was that it included the original song Carolina by Taylor Swift, which was later nominated for a Grammy and Golden Globe.
Where the Crawdads Sing airs on Saturday, April 5, at 9.15pm on Channel 4 and channel4.com.
