A 42-year-old man is facing an arson charge after allegedly setting two vehicles ablaze causing $30,000 in damage earlier this week, according to Windsor police.

Police said officers were called to a commercial property in the 2200 block of Central Avenue in Windsor shortly after 6 a.m. on Monday following reports of a deliberately set fire.

Responding officers arrived to the scene and found two parked vehicles that had sustained significant damage. The blaze was extinguished by Windsor Fire and Rescue Services.

Following an investigation, police said they determined that a male suspect had allegedly set fire to an unoccupied vehicle. That fire spread and caused a second vehicle nearby to erupt in flames.

No injuries were reported.

Police said the damage to both vehicles totaled an estimated $30,000.

Officers later located and arrested the suspect who had locked himself inside a public restroom at a business located in the 3500 block of Tecumseh Road East.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Windsor Police Arson Unit at 519-255-6700, ext. 4330. They can also contact Windsor & Essex County Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS) or online at catchcrooks.com.
